The American Injection Molding Institute Opens State-of-the-Art Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence Classroom at Erie Headquarters

ERIE, PA—The American Injection Molding (AIM) Institute, a subsidiary of Beaumont, is bringing all of the updated Mold Maintenance courses in-house, to be taught out of the brand-new Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence classroom located at the Erie, Pennsylvania headquarters. The AIM Institute acquired the training assets from Steve Johnson, owner and founder of MoldTrax, in July 2023. Classes were previo   usly conducted in Ashland, Ohio.

The new classroom boasts a four-bench operation to accommodate the training of up to eight technicians in the Mold Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Repair, and Hot Runner Troubleshooting & Repair and twelve technicians in the Mold Component Welding, Polishing & Repair, and Mold Texture Repair courses. The Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence is fitted with equipment and technologies every shop should have such a

s ultrasonic cleaning, media blasting, waterline cleaning, TIG and laser welding, electrical diagnostics of hot runners, leak detection, manifold cleaning, and ultrasonic polishers.

The AIM Institute’s Director, David Hoffman has said, “We had the vision for ‘The Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence’ almost immediately upon acquiring the assets. We wanted to carry on the legacy that Steve had put together by creating top-notch mold maintenance courses where the lecture area resides alongside our state-of-the-art hands-on bench area. This way the students don’t ever have to leave the shop environment, which is where they are most comfortable.”

Glenn Keith, instructor of Mold Maintenance at the AIM Institute, states, “There is a substantial amount of money under the ‘maintenance rock’ that can be saved by companies, and through the years we have helped many companies achieve this by training their technicians in a classroom and hands-on approach. I look forward to teaching in the AIM Institute’s Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence and working with their team to continue to add and update content to the existing courses and potentially create new ones that will add additional challenges to the students.” He adds, “It will be like working in a manufacturing setting where the processors, engineering and now maintenance technicians are under one roof and can collaborate on the best practice to achieve the desired results!”

Current available offerings at the Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence include Mold Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Repair, Hot Runner Troubleshooting & Repair, Mold Maintenance Strategies, Mold Component Welding, Polishing & Repair, and Mold Texture Repair. An Open House showcasing the Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence will be held on Monday, April 22nd at 4:00 pm at the American Injection Molding Institute’s headquarters located at 6100 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506.
