John Beaumont to author new article series in SPE Magazine

SPE’s Plastics Engineering magazine selects John Beaumont to write new article series titled “Question Everything”

spe_logoERIE, PA — John Beaumont, a plastic engineering leader, Plastics Hall of Fame Inductee, and President/CEO of Beaumont Technologies and the American Injection Molding Institute, will soon be sharing industry insights and knowledge in his “Question Everything” article series with readers of Plastics Engineering magazine, the official publication of the Society of Plastics Engineers.

This article series is part of SPE’s efforts to increase practical, hands-on information exchange and to educate the plastics injection molding industry about innovation and advancements. According to John, editors at Plastics Engineering magazine recruited him to write articles for an ongoing series.

John Beaumont_fixed_002 (1)“In this series, I will be presenting and discussing issues specific to injection molding with topics including mold design, processing, part design, and plastic materials,” said John. “I will look to question and challenge state-of-the-art and try to separate what are rules-of-thumb and pseudoscience from what is real science. We will explore both the good and the bad practices of our trade. Ultimately, if we want to advance this industry, we can’t keep doing the same thing. We need to question everything.”

John added that the content will be highly relevant for anyone involved in the development or manufacturing of injection molded plastic products– including project, process and tooling engineers; product and tooling designers, QC/QA, tool makers and management.

“The injection molding process is possibly one of the most complex part formation processes on the planet” said John. “Though this may seem to be a bold statement- consider that after nearly a 150-year history we still expect every new injection mold to begin as a failure requiring numerous, costly and time consuming iterative trips back-and-forth between the molder and mold builder. We have become so accustomed to failure that it has become the norm, and the ‘state-of-the-art’ that surrounds it, to be acceptable.”

The “Question Everything” articles will be featured five times per year starting in the July/August 2016 issue.
