AIM Launches a New Plastics Technology Certificate Program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Erie, Pennsylvania – October 28, 2025
The American Injection Molding (AIM) Institute launches the Plastics Technology Certificate Program (PT Program), a flexible, credential-based initiative designed to meet the growing global demand for world-class injection molding education and training. The program will launch on November 11-12, 2025, with its first of four online exams available in both Spanish and English.
Background: PT Program
The PT Program emerged directly from feedback gathered from Latin American industry partners along with Daniel Lopez, the AIM Institute’s instructor based in Mexico. Both leaders and professionals expressed a strong need for their workforce to attain foundational plastics injection molding knowledge and critical thinking skills, while holding some accountability with a testing option. Daniel noted that in the Latin American market, credentials hold significant value for career advancement. “This program delivers exactly what professionals have been asking for,” he stated, highlighting that it offers structured learning and a highly sought-after certificate that demonstrates a high level of expertise from a globally recognized institution.”
“The PT Program evolved from our original ‘Development Courses’ and is built on four key pillars of injection molding: plastic materials, mold design, injection molding, and part design,” stated David Rose, AIM Senior Instructor.
“The PT Program provides a clear pathway for professionals to earn a credential at any career stage, equipping both new and experienced members of your workforce with the essential knowledge and skills they need to excel. Our ability to host courses in-person and online at the same time at our HQ location allows this educational credential to be offered to the global injection molding industry,” said David Hoffman, Director of the AIM Institute. “Additionally, the PT Program is quite different from our Plastics Technology & Engineering Program (PTE Program). However, graduates of the PT Program will be well prepared to enter into the PTE Program, where they can earn an accredited certificate and college credits toward a 2-year AAS-AT degree with a concentration in Plastics Injection Molding.”
Differences between the PTE Professional and PT Associate
An AIM Institute PTE Professional achieves the highest level of injection molding education and training available in the industry (outside of a University setting), and the PTE Program is accredited to the ANSI/ASTM E2659 standard. The total instruction time for the program is 10 months/ 220+ hours, which includes lectures, labs, homework, and online review meetings.
To earn the credential of PT Associate, students must complete all four instructor-led courses and pass their corresponding online exams. Students have the flexibility to choose the order in which they take their classes. The total instruction time for the program is 8 days/ 64 hours, which consists mainly of lecture time.
Additional key highlights:
- No homework or online course reviews for PT Program
- Offered online and in-person
- Multiple-choice exams*
- Courses available à la carte*
